Collection: Laurina | Check out this low-caffeine standout from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.

Also known as Bourbon Pointu, it developed on Reunion Island, a French coffee growing colony in the Indian Ocean. Possibly a spontaneous combination of Bourbon and native wild coffees, this varietal has two standout features.

First is it's lower caffeine content. This varietal's lower caffeine makes it a great afternoon coffee for those sensitive to caffeine. The lower caffeine content, a natural pest deterrent, mades this coffee more sensitive to insects and coffee rust resulting in fewer plants reaching maturity, along with lower expected yields and the exclusive privilege for us to be able to offer it.

Second is it's unique cupping characteristics. This coffee has achieved recent notoriety and commanded prices over $500/kilo as reported in Food & Wine Magazine, it's history is also very unique:

Recent genetic testing proves that Bourbon Pointu is a genetic mutation of the early Arabica plants brought to Réunion by French traders. Only a small handful of the plants were able to survive by adapting to the island's volcanic soil. The beans developed a pointy shape, leading to their name: Bourbon Pointu, or “pointy bourbon.”

This year we're seeing an increased production of this Laurina coffee and will be the only way to get this exclusive offering. Contact us via chat for commercial inquires to get your hands on this exclusive coffee (and don't just take our word for it):

It’s nearly impossible to find someone outside of Japan’s specialty coffee circles who has tasted this scarce coffee, and it’s rarely available to coffee drinkers in the US. - Food & Wine Magazine
