Description
Java's journey begins in Ethiopia, the birthplace of Arabica. In the 1800s, Dutch traders carried it to Indonesia, where it took on its name. In 1991, Dr. Frank Bendaña planted Java on volcanic hillsides in Matagalpa — the beginning of what is now one of Nicaragua's most respected Java programs.
Tasting Notes
Our medium roast Java brings out the full depth of this varietal:
- Caramel sweetness — rich, rounded, and approachable
- Honeycrisp apple brightness — clean acidity without sharpness
- Gentle citrus snap — a subtle lift in the finish
- Vanilla and lemon-cookie notes
- Creamy body with an elegant, lingering finish
"Elegant, steady, and quietly distinctive — Java is a varietal that rewards patience." — Ana Bendaña, General Manager
Grown at Elevation
At 1,200+ meters in Matagalpa, Java grows beneath broad plantain leaves — natural shade that deepens sweetness and complexity. Hand-harvested by a crew of 300 seasonal pickers selecting only the ripest cherries.
How to Brew
Drip / Pour-over: Java's caramel and apple notes shine with a medium grind and 200°F water. Our most versatile coffee — excellent as a daily driver.
French Press: The creamy body comes alive with immersion brewing. 4 minutes, coarse grind.
Espresso: Rich crema, caramel sweetness, smooth finish. Blends beautifully or stands alone.
